Self Love is not Selfish

When was the last time you took the time to practice self love?

Many people think that focusing on yourself, loving yourself first means that you are depriving others of the love you can give them.

I challenge this.

I believe, that in order to be fully present to give love, we have to find that love for ourselves. Remember, that you are always with yourself, and the love you have for yourself is a personal priority.

This month, February, is a month of celebrating love - for others, and for yourself.

Maybe for the first time in your life, practice some self love and self care this month.

Here are a few tips:

  1. Practice gratitude daily. This is one of my Simple 7 practices. Simply think about what you are grateful for everyday and write down 3-5 things. This can be part of your morning, or evening routine, or both.

  2. "NO" is a complete sentence. Setting boundaries for yourself and saying no to the things you feel obligated to do, but don't want to do is a great way to practice self love. This won't be popular, so put on your big girl panties.

  3. Buy yourself flowers. I just love fresh cut flowers in the house. Don't wait for a special occasion or someone to get them for you, treat yourself. Most local grocery stores today have beautiful flower bouquets on hand, grab some on your next shopping trip.

  4. Surround yourself with positive people. I read the book, The Energy Bus, years ago, it is a quick, great read all about the people you surround yourself with. p.s. there is a kids version too.

  5. Take care of your body. Bet this one is a surprise, right? Your body is the home you will live in FOREVER. Take great care of it, and don't let anyone make you wrong for doing good things for your body. Eat real whole food, move your body daily, get enough sleep, get a massage and/or a facial, give yourself a "time out" once in a while, and drink your stupid water.

I hope you found this helpful, and that you take the time to practice more self love this month. Let me know how I can help.

Hugs, Health & Happiness,
