Turning over a new leaf: How to make simple changes for a healthier fall

Ah, autumn—it's a time of transition and transformation, where nature sheds its old to make way for the new. As we witness the world around us changing, it's the perfect opportunity to reflect on our own growth throughout the year.

Reflect and Reset

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to neglect our well-being, with health often taking a backseat. If you're nodding in agreement, you're not alone, we all think we will find the time , someday. Sorry to tell you this, someday, is not a day in the week. You can make positive changes, and it doesn't have to feel like you are giving your life an overhaul.

Small Steps, Big Impact

Let's talk about exercise. Perhaps you've been eyeing that gym membership card hanging off of your keychain, guilt-tripping yourself for not using it enough. But let me challenge you: improving your health doesn't have to involve hours at the gym.

Start small. How about a few pushups each day? Or a brisk walk around the neighborhood? Even adding squats to your daily routine can kickstart your fitness journey. Grab a jump rope or a basketball, and move outside.

Habit Stacking: The Game Changer

In his book, Atomic Habits ,  James Clear introduces a powerful concept: habit stacking. It's a simple yet effective strategy where you pair a new habit with an existing one.

It works. It is one of the best tools I put in my clients toolboxes when they need, or want to make changes and feel overwhelmed by it.

Think about it—why not do squats while brushing your teeth?

Or a few counter pushups while you are brewing your morning coffee?

It is really that easy!

Try this: Make a list of ten things you do religiously every day.

Then make a list of just five habits you wish to incorporate.

Now, stack them!! You got this!

Embrace the Change

I know that when we are trying to make changes, we focus more on what we have to give up than what we have to gain. Doing a few squats and pushups, and a short walk won't transform your body this week, but over time, you will no doubt witness change.

But you will feel more accomplished and probably sleep better.

Conclusion

So, as we bid farewell to the warmth of summer, hopefully, and welcome the crisp air

of fall, let's make some positive changes for ourselves.

Take those small steps, stack those habits, and watch what happens this fall.

Here's to turning over a new leaf and making this season your healthiest one yet!

Remember, all it takes is one step at a time. Happy fall, everyone!
