Back to School – Back to You

It's that time of year!

When the kids head back to school, something shifts. The long, lazy days of summer start giving way to a little more structure. Whether you’re a mom, dad, grandparent, teacher—or simply someone who enjoys the buzz of this season—it’s the perfect time to ride that wave of fresh starts and get back into a routine of your own.

Summer often has its own rhythm: late nights, BBQs, vacations, and maybe a bit more “go with the flow” than usual. But as school buses roll and calendars fill, this is your opportunity to align with the natural momentum all around you. Many people are making changes right now—new schedules, new routines, new goals—and that energy can be contagious.

Why Start Now?

  • You’re not alone – Everyone else is making changes too. You can feed off that community energy.

  • Structure makes it easier – The school schedule creates natural blocks of time you can use for yourself.

  • Momentum matters – When you start during a season of change, it’s easier to build new habits.

Start Small & Stack It Up

Don’t fall into the “all or nothing” trap. The best routines are built in small steps.

One of my favorite tools is habit stacking—attaching a new habit to one you already do without thinking. For example:

  • After I pour my morning coffee, I’ll drink a full glass of water.

  • After I drop the kids at school, I’ll walk for 10 minutes before heading home.

  • After I brush my teeth at night, I’ll stretch for 3 minutes.

Over time, those little add-ons add up to big results.

Need a Place to Start? Use My Simple 7

If you’re not sure what to focus on, my Simple 7 framework is a great way to build a strong foundation:

  1. Sleep – Aim for quality rest so you have the energy to follow through on your plans.

  2. Water – Hydration is the cheapest, easiest performance booster.

  3. Movement – Daily movement matters; no need for a full workout every time.

  4. Real Food – Prioritize whole, minimally processed foods.

  5. Nature – Get outside for sunlight, fresh air, and a mood boost.

  6. Gratitude – Start or end your day with a simple gratitude practice.

  7. Me-Time – 10 minutes of doing something just for you can change how you feel.

Pick one or two areas, start small, and stack your new habits onto the rhythms of your new fall schedule.

Your Back-to-School Action Plan

ree
  1. Choose one new habit to start this week.

  2. Stack it onto something you already do.

  3. Keep it small, simple, and doable.

  4. Celebrate your wins, no matter how small.

Remember: You don’t need a perfect plan—you just need to start. And there’s no better time than now, when the world is settling back into a routine.

Let this be the season you go “back to school” for your own health.

Who I Am (Not Just What I Do)

I’ve always found it interesting how one of the first questions people ask when they meet you is, “So, what do you do?” It’s almost automatic — but it skips over something far more meaningful: who we
