The Greatest gift I can give..

My Granddaughter Isn't Something I Can Buy

My granddaughter has no idea I'm 53 years older than she is.

And honestly...

I hope she never does.

For the past several years, Briann has flown from Massachusetts to Florida with me, as part of her birthday gift.

Every year we add a few more days, and every year we somehow find even more adventures to pack into our time together.

This year we've paddleboarded.

Walked for hours at the zoo.

Spent afternoons enjoying each others company.

Gone paddleboarding again because once apparently isn't enough.

The big adventure of this trip was horseback riding.

Every morning starts the same way.

"What are we doing today?"

"What are we doing next?"

"Can we try this?"

What strikes me isn't how much energy she has.

It's that she never once looks at me and thinks, Maybe Grammy can't do this.

She never wonders if I'm too old.

She never questions whether I'll be able to keep up.

She simply assumes Grammy can.

And I love that.

Not because I need to prove anything, but because it reminds me

why I started taking care of myself all those years ago.

Somewhere along the way, our culture convinced women that exercise was mostly about looking different.

Smaller.

Thinner.

Younger.

As if the finish line was fitting into a certain size or turning back the clock.

I don't believe that.

I believe strength is about freedom.

Freedom to climb the stairs without thinking about it.

Freedom to lift your suitcase into the overhead bin.

Freedom to travel.

Freedom to hike.

Freedom to paddleboard.

Freedom to say yes when your grandchildren ask if you want to go horseback riding.

Years ago, I stopped training for a smaller body.

I started training for a bigger life.

That one decision has changed everything.

Because one day Briann won't remember every birthday gift I ever bought her.

She won't remember every toy or every wrapped package.

But she'll remember laughing so hard we couldn't breathe.

She'll remember the animals at the zoo.

She'll remember falling off the paddleboard.

She'll remember the horses.

She'll remember that Grammy always could handle one more adventure.

Those are the things that stay with us.

The older I get, the more convinced I become that our greatest investment isn't what we leave our families.

It's the life we share with them while we're here.

Every squat.

Every walk.

Every workout.

Every healthy meal.

Every choice to keep moving...

They're not acts of vanity.

They're acts of love.

Because every one of those choices gives us another chance to say yes to the people we love most.

That's why I am starting

the Strong Grandma Movement.

Not to help women look younger.

Not to chase unrealistic expectations.

But to help women build bodies capable of living fully—for decades to come.

I often say that we are the women our grandmothers needed.

I hope we're also becoming the grandmothers our grandchildren deserve.

The kind who join the adventure.

The kind who stay curious.

The kind who keep moving.

The kind who answer every invitation with two simple words:

"Let's go."

That may be the greatest gift we ever give.

Not because it's something they can unwrap.

But because it's something they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Strength has no age limit.

It has a purpose.

And that purpose is to help us live a life worth remembering.

What adventure do you hope your grandchildren will remember forever?
