Build it before you need it.

What Are You Training For?

I'm home from the Grammy Tour and getting back into my routine.

Lifting.

Building muscle.

Working on balance, power, mobility and my nervous system.

Eating well. Sleeping. Recovering.

But here's what's different:

I don't have anything to train for.

No Ironman.

No Spartan race.

After a retreat in a couple of weeks, I don't even have another trip planned.

And I've realized something.

Maybe that's exactly when we should be training.

We tend to wait until we have a reason.

A vacation.

A wedding.

A doctor's appointment.

A scary test result.

The moment we realize getting off the floor isn't quite as easy as it used to be.

What if we stopped waiting until we needed strength to start building it?

Build the legs before someone asks you to climb the stairs.

Build the balance before you stumble.

Build the muscle before age starts taking more of it.

Build the endurance before the long day.

Build the confidence before someone says, "Come on, Grammy!"

You don't need to know exactly what you're training for.

Train anyway.

Because strength gives you options.

It gives you the ability to say YES when the opportunity comes instead of wondering whether your body can handle it.

Right now, I don't know what my next big adventure will be.

And I'm okay with that.

I'm going to build myself up so I'm ready when it finds me.

Because there's always another adventure.

And there's always next summer.

Train now. Transfer it to the life you want to live.
